Karl Kammerer Named Regional Director of the Kansas Small Business Development Center at JCCC

The Kansas Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is excited to announce the selection of Karl Kammerer, MBA, Ph.D., as its new Regional Director. Kammerer assumed the position with the SBDC on April 7, 2025.

“We’re excited to welcome Karl to the JCCC SBDC team as he begins serving our small business community,” said Elisa Waldman, Vice President of Workforce Development and Continuing Education at JCCC. “With extensive experience as a business owner, college administrator, and educator, Karl brings valuable insight and energy to the role. His passion for entrepreneurship, paired with his robust background, will help the SBDC team deliver innovative and impactful support to our local businesses.”

As Regional Director, Kammerer will focus on connecting area entrepreneurs and small business owners with the resources and support offered by the Kansas SBDC and the Kansas APEX Accelerator program. In this role, he will build on and develop new strategic partnerships to expand community awareness of and access to advising and training opportunities through the SBDC that drive small business success.

“A strong small business community is paramount to the overall health and prosperity of the places we call home,” said Kammerer. “I am proud to be a part of the work we do here at the Kansas Small Business Development Center at Johnson County Community College to transform lives and strengthen communities.”

Kammerer’s most recent appointment was as associate dean of business for Southern New Hampshire University Global (SNHU). Prior to his leadership role at SNHU, he held several faculty directorships at the University of Kansas, including program director for the bachelor’s in business administration program and professionalism program director. He also served as the director of the Duree Center for Entrepreneurship at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. Before commencing his career in higher education, Kammerer co-founded a thriving small business headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas.

JCCC is home to one of Kansas’ eight Small Business Development Centers. The Kansas Small Business Development Center network is a statewide, inter-institutional program to enhance economic growth in Kansas by providing management, marketing, and technical assistance to small businesses.
In 2024, the Kansas SBDC at JCCC provided 3,983 hours of advising to 608 unique clients, supported the creation of 1,473 full-time jobs and 1,250 part-time jobs, helped establish 39 new businesses, and assisted business owners in obtaining more than $11.4 million in capital.
