Company culture is a powerful organizational tool: it can impact sales, profits, recruiting efforts and employee morale, whether positively or negatively. A great company culture attracts people who want to work for and do business with a company. It can inspire employees to be more productive and positive at work while reducing turnover. Let’s take a deeper look at the 4 categories that impact company culture: Communication, Safety, Collaboration, and Growth.

Communication:

When employees and employers communicate effectively, it increases productivity. Each party understands what is expected of them and spends less time guessing, but rather implementing their side of the contract. In turn, productivity is optimized, and the business profits. Conversely, external communication with customers and stakeholders increases workflow and quick delivery since all parties are on the same page on what is to be done and how.

Safety:

Safety culture is just one aspect of the organizational culture. For a safety culture to thrive, a strong and healthy organizational culture is needed: one that aligns with the company’s values and overall objectives. Companies with a positive safety culture view safety as both a collective and an individual responsibility. Safety attitudes and behaviors are encouraged from the top to the bottom of an organization via the leadership and role modeling of supervisors, managers and executives of the company.

Collaboration:

Collaboration is the key to a more transparent, productive, and happier workplace. When employees collaborate by sharing ideas and skills, they feel connected with each other, are more engaged, and contribute to a culture of innovation and growth. Collaboration by nature is built on the idea of communicating effectively with each other, which creates a more open dialog to share ideas and concepts that enhances growth. Through collaboration, teams gather diverse inputs and solve problems faster in a routine workflow. All of these become key elements in creating a better company culture.

Growth:

A strong company culture gives employees opportunities to grow and flourish. Offering promotions, career development programs or extra training can keep employees motivated – which in turn, improves performance. When there is a cohesive and unified front, employees will put forth the additional effort to achieve organizational goals. This type of culture creates a positive work environment that enhances the value of each employee and develops a path that gives them a sense of belonging within the organization.
